Overall, Lao Hu Tong is valued for its quality ingredients, authentic taste, and attentive service, making it a favored destination for lovers of Chinese comfort food in Amherst.
Fast and friendly Service by staff that knows the food. The food itself was really good and presented well. We gave it four stars for food only because the main entree noodle dish we ordered turned out to be pretty bland. Preserved egg was also not served in any kind of spicy sauce like in other places. If you don't find parking in the street that is parking behind the establishment that you must pay for using park mobile or credit card. Parking is free on Sundays.
Came here for the first time on a rainy Saturday and this hit the hot noodle soup craving! Get the Beef Brisket Noodle Soup Combo and I added some more spice to it. Very good and great quality. We got HuTong Soup Dumplings which were very tasty. They had directions to help show out to eat soup dumplings for those who don’t. I came back again the next day and ordered the Crab Meat Soup Dumplings which I loved and also my boyfriend who usually doesn’t like seafood enjoyed it. I highly recommend for authentic food :)
Very authentic Northern-Chinese restaurant. The beef noodle soup is a must try. Also their potstickers are the best in Mass
Fantastic spot for noodles and dumplings! Their rich beef noodle soup is a standout and keeps me coming back.
Exceptional food. Each dish is flavorful and unique. The Hu Tong pot stickers are extremely flavorful. Hu Tong Soup Dumplings... WOW. The broth is very flavorful and the tender meat inside is a perfect bite! Chili Shrimp wonton were crispy, savory and beautiful. Wonderful service, quiet and restful atmosphere
Top 5 Chinese food I've had in Massachusetts. Really Really tasty, especially the cucumber, Dan Dan noodles, poached chicken, and pot stickers! Very happy.
Everything here was delicious! I got sesame noodles and the surf and turf dumplings. The sesame sauce was creamy, nutty, and complex. The dumplings had shrimp, pork, and chive and they were some of the best dumplings I’ve ever had! You could tell that they even made the dumpling wrappers from scratch. I liked the decorations and ambiance and the waitress was very nice.
Since it was raining and a bit chilly, I was craving some noodle soup. Luckily, I found this beautifully decorated Chinese-style restaurant. The place was really clean, which is a big plus because a lot of older Chinese restaurants in the U.S. tend to be dirty, with greasy surfaces and bad odors—places I definitely avoid. But the moment I saw the entrance to this restaurant, I had a good feeling about it! As for the food, everything was fantastic! The flavors were on point, and it was all super delicious. The handmade noodles were especially noteworthy—the broth was rich and flavorful, tasting like it was made from real chicken, not the typical MSG-heavy broth you often get in Chinese restaurants here. The texture of the noodles was perfectly chewy and springy, which is rare to find in the U.S. The soup dumplings were also excellent, the skins were thin, the soup inside was juicy, and the meat filling wasn’t too salty. I’m so happy to have found such a great Chinese restaurant!
